Our Mission Statement

Our education philosophy is to cultivate an environment which promotes the development of life-long learners through enriching music education. 

We strive to provide a well rounded music education to all San Jacinto Valley Academy Students. It is our goal to provide enriching musical experiences to our students and to cultivate a community of musicians and life-long learners. We achieve this goal by offering opportunities to students during school hours, and after school in our co-curricular music program. Our music program includes classes in Band, Choir, Strings, Guitar, Piano, Musical Theater, Songwriting/ Recording, Jazz Band, and Chamber Ensembles.

Our music program is open and free to all San Jacinto Valley Academy students.

Programs Offered


Band

Our elementary music program engages students in diverse activities designed to foster a deep connection with music. In a positive and encouraging environment, students explore fundamentals such as pitch, rhythm, timbre, volume and music literacy through singing, playing, creating and listening to music. Performances taking place throughout the year will showcase the students’ learning and foster engagement with their school and family communities.

CHOIR

The Choral Music Program at San Jacinto Valley Academy provides students with the opportunity to sing and work within an ensemble, employ deeper vocal exploration, and explore a wide variety of cultures and time periods through performance and study. The program contributes to the achievement of Expected School-Wide Learning Results while promoting International Baccalaureate values.

 

Elementary Music

Our elementary music program engages students in diverse activities designed to foster a deep connection with music. In a positive and encouraging environment, students explore fundamentals such as pitch, rhythm, timbre, volume and music literacy through singing, playing, creating and listening to music. Performances taking place throughout the year will showcase the students’ learning and foster engagement with their school and family communities.


Guitar

The SJVA Guitar program offers guitar classes to students in grades 3-12. We base our program on the Bridges Guitar Curriculum series, which provides a comprehensive structure for our students. Within this series students develop the skills necessary to succeed in learning proper technique, ear training and theory, musicality and musicianship, and various styles of guitar playing. Our curriculum and class schedule is custom tailored to provide our students with a well rounded approach to guitar education with classes including: Preparatory Guitar, Guitar I – V, Repertoire Class, and Guitar Ensemble. We strive to offer performance opportunities in solo and group settings, as well as interdisciplinary and collaborative settings, and work toward developing our students as complete musicians.

Strings

The SJVA Strings program offers strings classes to students in grades 3-12. We base our program on All for Strings book series including its theory work books, scale and technique methods, well as Suzuki method books, which provides a comprehensive structure for our students in all levels. In addition to all the books, all the students experience learning and performing repertoire from baroque, classical and romantic period, film music including Disney, and much more in different settings and ensembles such as strings duet, trio and quartet, strings orchestra, strings ensemble in collaboration with other clubs, and SJVA Symphonic Orchestra. Within all this different method books and different repertoire, students develop the skills necessary to succeed in learning proper technique, ear training and theory, music history, musicality and musicianship. SJVA Strings program is a professional and complete program that develops young talented students to be great, knowledgeable, and well rounded musicians.

Piano

The SJVA Piano Program was founded in 2014 and has grown to service over 50 students in 3rd-12th grade. Students in the piano program are given weekly lessons in small group settings on technique, music theory, and repertoire. The program holds two concerts per year that allows every student to showcase what they’ve learned during the semester. We encourage collaboration and team work often having students learn and perform duets, trios and group pieces. Our piano program strives to help students learn the basics of the keyboard in a fun and supportive environment.


Jazz band

Jazz Band is an audition based class designed for students grade sixth through eighth. Jazz band combines brass and woodwind instruments with rhythm section instruments. Students work on improvisation, Jazz charts and reading.

musical theater

SJVA’s Musical Theater Program, founded one year ago, was created as an outlet for students to express themselves and come together in a completely safe and supportive environment.  Our musical theater program hopes to encourage personal growth as well as providing real life experience in collaboration and communication to reach a common goal.  

Our theater program is open to students in 2nd grade and above.  We present two musicals per year, one performed in December and one performed in May/June.  Students work together for roughly four months to rehearse and perfect the shows.

songwriting/ recording

SJVA offers songwriting and recording to students in grades 7-12. This class provides a encouraging creative environment where students are able to work collaboratively to write and record original music. Students are encouraged to pursue musical genres of their own interest, and are exposed to a variety of music through analysis and critical listening. Students enrolled in the songwriting/ recording class will learn the skills necessary to write, record, and edit their own original music compositions.

Rock Band

Rock Band is an audition based class designed for students grade six through twelve. Rock band combines traditional rock instrumentation(guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and voice) with brass and woodwinds. Students will expand their musical knowledge in order to develop the skills necessary to play as a cohesive unit, perform their parts accurately, as well as play popular songs and stylistically appropriate repertoire.
